Getting there

Around town

Safety

Because of Mexico City's central location, flight times are very reasonable (5 hours from NYC, 4 hours from LA and 4.5 hours from SF). Additionally, as the airport is a major Latin American hub, flights are not too expensive. You should be able to get there from most major American cities for under $450. For more budget-minded guests, we suggest looking at discount airlines such as Volaris and Interjet.

For convenience, book your travel into Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez (MEX) to avoid long commutes into the city.

Uber works all over Mexico City and the surrounding area. We suggest using it to get around when you're down there. It's extremely cheap in Mexico City and ensures there won't be any mixup in getting to your destination.

We recommend that at least one person in your party gets a "roaming" data package or wifi hotspot before leaving for Mexico.

Of course taxis are available, but for those who don't speak Spanish, it can be a little tricky.

Mexico City is safe. There are currently no travel advisories in place for the city. Like any major city, certain areas are safer than other areas, however the likelihood that you will go near any rough neighborhoods is very low. And, of course, none of our suggested sightseeing or wedding activities will bring you anywhere near questionable locales.

Where to stay

Where to stay

Given the location of wedding activities, we're recommending the wedding guests stay in one of the following neighborhoods: La Condesa, Roma, Polanco, Colonia Juárez, or Zona Rosa. We created the interactive map below to help our guests traveling to Mexico City for the first time. It highlights the different neighborhoods as well as the location of the wedding ceremony and reception.

Accommodation

One of the things we love about Mexico City is its wide variety of boutique hotels. There’s really something for everyone and some of the best hotels have less than 10 rooms. We encourage our guests to branch out and support some of the smaller establishments. To that end, we did not book a room block at any large hotel.

Below are our hotel recommendations for the three different suggested neighborhoods. Since the hotels are small, if you would like to book multiple rooms at the same hotel, we recommend booking as soon as possible.

Zona Rosa/Juárez

Home to artists, designers and chefs, Colonia Juarez is Mexico City’s rapidly-gentrifying hipster enclave. Within Juarez, along the monument-lined Paseo de la Reforma, sits Zona Rosa; a loud and bustling neighborhood that some compare to Times Square. It also plays host to Mexico City’s Gay and Korean communities. Centrally located and popular with tourists, most either love or hate it.

This is Mexico City's Beverly Hills. Leafy side streets host Spanish Colonial Revival mansions and luxe apartments. Polanco is known for being fashionable and upscale, but it's also family-friendly – boasting many beautifully manicured parks and playgrounds.

Wide, tree-lined avenues, stately art nouveau mansions and well-maintained art deco apartment buildings give the chic La Condesa and Roma neighborhoods a distinctly European vibe. With many reasonably-priced boutique hotels, this is where most of the wedding party will stay.
