“It was early in our relationship

that I shared my love of Mexico City with Samantha and it became a backdrop to our love story. Mexico City embodies so much of what I love about Samantha: her taste for music, sophisticated palate, friendly nature, vibrant energy, lust for life and rugged beauty (just kidding about the last one). What better place to declare our love and intention than in a city that flows in rhythm with our bond? Also, Mexico does weddings like Italy does pasta.”  - Noah

Next stop:

San Miguel de Allende

After the weekend of celebration...

For those who can extend their journey, we're suggesting that guests join us on a trip north to San Miguel de Allende. Sam and Noah, along with some of the wedding party and family, will be there from July 2-6 (Tuesday through Saturday). The trip won’t necessarily be a coordinated group excursion, as we imagine most will want to discover the town and its surroundings at their own pace. Instead, we've booked a hacienda just outside of the city that will serve as a gathering place for wedding guests who want to stop by during their stay. We’ll be hosting some group dinners and lunches there, but other than that guests will have the freedom to conduct their visit as they see fit. To that end, we'll be coordinating travel to and from San Miguel de Allende and Mexico City; we won’t, however, be coordinating accommodation or sight-seeing tours.

MORE DETAILS

The hacienda:

Where the newlyweds will be relaxing and unwinding. Feel free to drop by and hang out when you're not sight-seeing or doing your own thing! Located 15 minutes from the town centre, it features a large pool, hot spring, dining areas and lots of places to kick back. We'll be coordinating some group dinners and lunches at the hacienda for those who want to join, and will provide shuttle service to and from the city centre. Additionally, the staff at the hacienda can help organize activities and sightseeing.

What you need to coordinate:

You will need to plan your own accommodation. Luckily, San Miguel de Allende offers an awesome range of places to stay at every price point. We recommend staying within the town, as it's highly walkable.

Getting there:

Tickets on a luxury bus to San Miguel de Allende are approximately $20 each way. We've taken the bus before and it's quite nice, with large seats, personal entertainment, air conditioning and wi-fi. For those who will join us from July 2-6, let us know when you RSVP and we will arrange group transportation.

San Miguel de Allende

Vibrantly colored buildings line the cobblestone streets of San Miguel de Allende, a romantic city with 16th-century origins nestled among central Mexico's Sierra Madre Mountains. Through the past 50 years, this quaint city has evolved into a respite for expats and a popular destination for tourists looking to delve into the music, food and arts scene of off-the-beaten-path Mexico.

San Miguel's location — about 170 miles northwest of Mexico City in Guanajuato state — plays a key role in its dynamic history. Once full of wealth from nearby silver mines, San Miguel was left dilapidated after multiple wars (the early 20th century's Mexican Revolution among them). In 1937, Chicago native Stirling Dickinson stumbled upon the small town, established an artist's colony and quickly got San Miguel's renaissance off the ground. Today, evidence of that compelling re-emergence can be seen tucked into every lively corner of the diverse, arts-driven destination.

Due to the architectural and historical significance of the carefully preserved central neighborhood, the town itself is a UNESCO site, as is the nearby Jesuit sanctuary of Jesús Nazareno de Atotonilco, an unparalleled example of Mexican baroque architecture and interior décor. UNESCO added San Miguel de Allende and Atotonilco to the list in 2008, noting that both sites were significant in the country's movement for Independence from Spain, and that the art and architecture of Atotonilco displays the melding of Spanish, Creole, and Amerindian traditions.
